5 Warning Signs of OCD

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a genetically-based anxiety disorder comprised of obsessions and compulsions that impacts over 2 million people in the US alone. Typical onset of OCD is between the ages of 10-12 years old. OCD is a treatable condition although; on average it takes 14-17 years from time OCD begins to obtain treatment. There are 5 warning signs that help someone identify OCD in someone else. The warning signs to be aware of are someone talking about intrusive, unwanted thoughts that create fear or distress, compulsive behaviors (repeated checking or redoing), becoming isolated, seeking reassurance from others, and depression. OCD is treated by evidence-based behavioral therapy and Exposure Response Prevention (ERP) combined with medication.
